Position Overview
We are looking for a passionate Commis Chef to join our Chinese cuisine team, specializing in Dim Sum. This role offers hands-on experience in preparing traditional steamed, fried, and baked delicacies, while working closely with senior chefs to deliver authentic flavors and exceptional presentation.
Key Responsibilities
Ingredient preparation: Wash, cut, and portion vegetables, meats, and seafood for dumplings, buns, and rolls.
Dough and wrapper handling: Assist in preparing and rolling dough, wrappers, and pastry for dim sum items.
Cooking support: Operate steamers, fryers, and ovens under supervision to ensure consistency in taste and texture.
Mise en place: Set up and maintain the dim sum station with all necessary ingredients and tools.
Presentation assistance: Support plating and garnishing of dim sum dishes for service.
Hygiene compliance: Maintain cleanliness of prep and cooking areas, adhering to HACCP standards.
Stock monitoring: Track ingredient usage, report shortages, and assist in proper storage.
Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of Chinese dim sum techniques (steaming, frying, baking).
Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
Strong attention to detail and patience for intricate preparation.
Teamwork and communication skills to support senior chefs.
Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
Qualifications
Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts preferred.
Prior experience in Asian or Chinese cuisine is an advantage.
Enthusiasm for learning traditional dim sum preparation methods.
